The Council hopes to conduct a series of public forums in the fall related to options for protecting the City, particularly as they relate to its treatment of levees and seawalls, and to utilities that are integral to the functioning of the entire City. The new ad hoc committee’s role would be to review options under consideration and advise the Council as to a course of action in preparation for this broader public discussion. Members should be willing to commit to a number of meetings in a compressed time period during late May and early June. Members would also need to be willing to devote a significant amount of time to the review of technical materials in advance of the first committee meeting. Read more about the new committee.
Belvedere’s Block Captain Program is an important component of the City’s disaster response organization. Staffed entirely by volunteers, with the involvement of the City Manager and Police Chief, the program enlists block captains in each of the City’s neighborhoods, who are then trained to help their neighbors respond to an emergency. We know that being prepared – at the household and community level – improves outcomes. Read more about the Belvedere Block Captain Program.
