UTILITY UNDERGROUNDING
The Belvedere City Council is committed to the long-range goal of undergrounding all overhead utilities in the City. Shortly after the highly successful completion of the Corinthian Island undergrounding project in 1999, the Council appointed several prominent residents to the first Utility Undergrounding Committee.
Within a year, two adjacent neighborhoods on Upper Beach Road were petitioning the Council to form undergrounding assessment districts. These were ultimately combined and 59 parcels participated in a highly successful undergrounding project – completed in 2003. The Madrona, Bella Vista & Oak District (57 parcels) was completed in 2006; San Rafael Avernue (42 parcels) was completed in 2008 and Lower Belvedere Avenue District (73 parcels) is substantially complete.
Many property owners have contacted Staff about how to get the undergrounding process started in their neighborhoods. We currently have two more districts authorized by the City Council:
Bayview/Bella Vista (67 parcels) – current construction to complete in Fall 2010
Mid-San Rafael Avenue (74 parcels) - in final design; construction targeted to start late Summer 2010
Two other neighborhoods are actively soliciting support.
Today approximately 75% of the City has underground utilities. If both of the above Council-approved districts are completed that would bring the total to about 85%. For more information, click on the following links:
