2007 Concerts in the Park

This year is the 10th season of the Concerts-in-the-Park. In the past nine years, over thirty concerts have entertained residents of the Tiburon Peninsula. Concert programs would not have been possible without the generous financial support of the community, the Belvedere Community Foundation, the William and Gretchen Kimball Fund, local businesses, and the City.

The 2007 Summer Series has been set and will culminate with a spectacular concert event in conjunction with the annual Labor Day Parade on Sunday, September 2. Concerts are held on Sunday afternoons from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The following is a schedule of events for the 2007 Summer Series:

  • Sunday, June 17 - West African Highlife Band
  • Sunday, July 15 - Natural Gas Jazz Band
  • Sunday, August 5 - San Francisco Adler Fellows Opera
  • Sunday, September 2 - Labor Day Special Event Concert

As special thank you goes out to the many volunteers and members of the 2007 Concerts-in-the-Park Committee: Anne Butler, Nancy Cappelloni, Christina Decker, Tina Dewey, Ginny Doyle, Roger Felton, Nena Hart, Maureen Johnson, Cissy Kirrane, and Petey Stein.

San Rafael Avenue Underground District

Construction Activity

Construction activity will begin for the San Rafael Avenue Underground District at the end of May. Travel along San Rafael Avenue will be restricted to one lane as work commences to underground the utilities. Please be patient as there may be delays and/or periods where the roadway will be completely blocked. Construction crews will be using the small pocket park adjacent to the intersection of West Shore Road and San Rafael Avenue for staging activities, as well as, staging along sections of the roadway itself.

It is anticipated that the project will last no longer than 6 months. At the conclusion of the underground project, San Rafael Avenue will receive a total pavement overlay in conjunction with pathway improvements and improvements to the area landscaping.

For more information on undergrounding activity, the current project, or other City projects , please contact the City's Public Works Department at 435-3838.

Bob Branz, City Engineer Retires

...but doesn't go far!

As you may be aware, City Engineer Bob Branz elected to retire from the City at the end of April. Bob has been with the City since September 1994; however, while he is retiring, he is not going far! The City is fortunate to have someone of Bob's caliber serving as its City Engineer and to that end, Bob will be returning to his role in a part-time capacity.

This is of great benefit for Belvedere as we get to retain Bob's history, knowledge, and expertise and Bob gets to continue to do something he loves! As the saying goes, it's a win-win! In his new capacity, Bob will be in the office on Mondays & Wednesdays with public counter hours. He will continue to serve as the City Engineer and will take an active role on many key projects - like utility undergrounding.

To recognize Bob for his years of service to the City, his dedication to making Belvedere a wonderful place to live, and his commitment to innovation in reaching community solutions, the City is arranging for an evening Cocktail Reception in his honor. You are of course invited! The reception is planned for Wednesday, June 13 at the San Francisco Yacht Club. In order to offset the cost of the event and to help fund a retirement gift, there will be a cost to attend (you must RSVP). Flyers will be going out soon!

As you may know, the City cannot spend public funds in excess on such activities. The City can allocate a basic amount toward recognition and/or awards. So, if you would like to contribute to the event to help underwrite some of the cost beyond basic attendance, feel free to do so!
