BEARS
The Belvedere Emergency Advisory Radio System, or BEARS, is a low power continuous broadcasting radio system designed to provide information to the public during emergency and non-emergency situations.

BEARS coverage extends throughout the City Of Belvedere and into portions of Tiburon. BEARS is primarily used as a public information system, providing various tips and procedures that Belvedere residents may find interesting and informative. BEARS is also used by the police department to issue statements regarding criminal activity or any other action or incident the police department feels the public should know about.

In an emergency situation, BEARS will transmit information regarding the type of emergency and where it is occurring. BEARS can be tuned in at 840 AM on your radio.

BELNET
The Belvedere Police Department has a program called Belnet. This program is for people who live alone and request a phone call everyday to make sure that they are doing well.

For more information about Belnet please contact the Belvedere Police Department - (415) 435-3266 or email police@cityofbelvedere.org

OPERATION IDENTIFICATION?
Operation Identification, or Operation I.D., is a citizen's burglary prevention/property identification program for use in homes and businesses. Operation I.D. involves the marking of property with an identifying number as a means of identifying property that might be stolen and returning it to the owner. Many people do not keep records of serial numbers or other identifying characteristics of their belongings. Operation I.D. is a quick and easy way for Law Enforcement to recognize a piece of property as not belong to a subject who is possessing the property.

WHERE CAN I OBTAIN A LOANER ENGRAVER TO USE?
The Belvedere Police Department has several available for citizens and business owners to use. Please stop by the Department during normal business hours and pick one up. The engravers need to be plugged into a 110 electrical outlet.

WHAT IDENTIFICATION NUMBER SHOULD I USE?
Mark your valuables by inscribing the abbreviation of the state which issued you your driver's license followed by your driver's license number. If you do not have a driver's license, mark your valuables by engraving your California identification card number, which can be obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles. A sample engraving would look like this (CA-A1234567).

WHAT PROPERTY SHOULD I ENGRAVE?
All items that might be attractive to a thief, such as radios, televisions, camera equipment, stereos, small appliances, tools, and sports equipment should all be marked.

HOW DO I USE THE ENGRAVER?
The engraver uses a hardened steel tip which vibrates at a very high speed. When it is touched to the item you wish to engrave, it makes impressions on the item. Hold the engraver perpendicular to the item you wish to engrave. The engraver has an adjustment for different types of surfaces. Be sure to practice on a test piece of material prior to using the engraver on your property.

WHERE SHOULD I MAKE THE ENGRAVINGS?
The item should be marked in a conspicuous place where an Officer might look for a serial number. DO NOT DEFACE OR SCRATCH OUT THE SERIAL NUMBER.
