Facial Coverings

Marin County Public Health has issued an order requiring the wearing of facial covering when completing essential activities. All citizens are asked to wear facial covering when interacting with anyone outside of their household in both public and private settings. Facial covering must be worn securely over one's nose and mouth to comply with public health orders. Public health officials recommend washing your hands or using hand sanitizer before and after handling your mask.

Specifically, facial covering is required when:

  • Inside public spaces or waiting in line to enter public spaces.
  • Seeking health care.
  • Waiting for or riding on mass transit or other shared transportation.
  • In common areas of buildings, such as hallways, stairways, elevators and parking facilities.
  • Working at businesses physically open and in areas where the public is present, likely to be present, or at any time when others are nearby.
  • Working in any space where food is being prepared and/or packaged for sale.
  • Driving/Operating public transit vehicles.

Citizens do not need to wear facial covering while exercising alone outdoors. However, citizens must keep a mask or other facial covering on hand to be worn when passing someone within six feet.
