The Belvedere Police Department uses an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system, which is operated by Vigilant Solutions. The ALPR technology allows for the automated detection of license plates. It is used by the Belvedere Police Department to convert data associated with vehicle license plates for official law enforcement purposes, including identifying stolen or wanted vehicles, stolen license plates, and missing persons. It may also be used to gather information related to active warrants, homeland security, electronic surveillance, suspect interdiction, and stolen property recovery.
All installation and maintenance of ALPR equipment, as well as ALPR data retention and access, shall be managed by the Administrative Sergeant. The Administrative Sergeant will grant members access once training is successfully completed and are familiar with the day-to-day operation of the ALPR equipment and data.
Vigilant Solutions is the custodian and owner of the ALPR system and is responsible for implementing the “Vigilant Solutions LPR Usage and Privacy Release Policy,” except for law enforcement owned LPR camera systems and the resulting data, for which the respective law enforcement agency is the owner of the LPR data and the company is the custodian. Vigilant’s CJIS Security Officer will be responsible for compliance to this policy.
