Coastal Cleanup Day

We need your help! Please join us for the 31st Annual
Coastal Cleanup Day:
Saturday, September 19th
9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
San Rafael Avenue Seawall
Volunteers are needed who can record what items are
found during the cleanup as well as folks who feel comfortable picking up trash along the
seawall.
Community service credit is available for school kids who participate. Parents must sign waivers for minors.
If you can, please bring your own work or garden gloves. Hats and sturdy rubber bottomed shoes are also recommended.
For questions, please call James Campbell at 415-309-0619.
We look forward to seeing our neighbors on Saturday, September 19th!
Help Keep Marin Litter-Free
It is crucial to keep litter off our streets where rain sweeps it into storm drains which wash to local creeks, bays and the ocean. Since people are less likely to litter in clean areas than in already-littered areas, we influence other people’s behavior when we pick up litter and place it where it belongs—in the trash or recycling bin. We encourage you to participate in this year’s California Coastal Cleanup Day on September 19, 2015, and work with others to support clean beaches and creeks. Last year, 1526 volunteers picked up 9,942 pounds of litter, and cleaned 70 miles of creeks and shorelines. These impressive efforts help to keep the local waterways free of trash and attractive for all to enjoy.
Here is a list of ways you can keep litter off our streets and out of storm drains, and keep our creeks and shorelines clean!
Volunteer on September 19th for the Annual Coastal Cleanup Day at Belvedere's San Rafael Avenue Sea Wall!
- Volunteer to clean up creeks and streets throughout the year. To find a local creek group in Marin, check out mcstoppp.org
- Support “Adopt-A-Highway” through Marin Clean Highways
- Make sure wrappers from fast food restaurants are placed in trash cans that have lids.
- Bring your own water bottle, and when purchasing coffee or beverages, bring your own cup.
- Keep reusable bags in your car for use when shopping for groceries, clothing, etc. Check out Zero Waste Marin tables which frequent local farmer’s markets, or request a free bag on the contact us tab of their website for a free tote or mesh produce bag.
- Pack a waste-free lunch - especially for students, and bring waste-free snacks to sporting events.

14th Annual Online Digital Photography Contest
Submissions due by October 31, 2015

Professional
and amateur photographers alike have enjoyed capturing the stunning
nature of the Belvedere and Tiburon Peninsula in this annual event.
This year's photography contest, the 14th Annual, will be
exhibited online 24 hours a day and will accept entries until October
31, 2015.
Last year we had 92 talented photographers submit nearly 200
beautiful images in six categories, using cameras and smartphones. This
year we have six categories to choose from:
- Architecture on the Peninsula
- Events of the Peninsula
- Wildlife on the Peninsula
- Views of the Peninsula
- People of the Peninsula
- Life in Tiburon and Belvedere (Entrants age 5 to 18)
There will be a People’s Choice Award given to one photo in
the contest. Any registered person can vote for what is in their opinion
the best photo in each category. Each winner will be acknowledged at
the final awards event to be held at Belvedere City Hall on November
12th.
Winning entries will be announced at the annual meeting of
the Belvedere Community Foundation on November 12th and displayed at a
one-time public reception to honor the entrants at the Belvedere City
Hall, 450 San Rafael Avenue. For more information, please visit the Belvedere Community Foundation website.
