DRAFT Flood Management/Mitigation Plan
|
|
Public Comment Period
City of Belvedere DRAFT Flood
Management/Mitigation Plan
In the past, the City has been faced with flooding and drainage problems that have flooded buildings and resulted in significant economic impacts. The City developed a Flood Mitigation Plan consistent with the federally prescribed planning process for the development of the Plan. Through the goals of the Plan, the City seeks to maintain and enhance a disaster resistant community by reducing the potential loss of life, property damage, and environmental degradation from floods, while accelerating economic recovery from those floods.
The Plan will be adopted as an Appendix to the City's General Plan Environmental Hazards: Safety and Stability Element and will be submitted to FEMA for adoption. The document linked here is a DRAFT Flood Management Plan set out for public review prior to scheduled adoption by the City Council at their February meeting. The Plan will be reviewed by the City's Citizens' Flood Zone Committee and by the City's Planning Commission prior to submission to the City Council for adoption at their March City Council meeting.
In addition, the City is asking that members of the community complete a Flood Damage Survey. (It is a print and mail or drop type of survey - not an online survey.) The Survey will assist the City in their efforts to work FEMA through their Cooperative Technical Partner process.
If you have comments regarding the Plan, feel free to attend one of the public meetings and/or send your comments to City Manager George Rodericks at grodericks@cityofbelvedere.org.

Belvedere Chief Fracolli

Farewell Reception
February 14, 2011
6:30 pm
As many of you know, the City contracts with the Marin County Sheriff's Department for the services of its Police Chief. The contract provides the City with proven leadership and experience plus the depth of a full-service Sheriff's Department and provides the Sheriff with the opportunity to further expand the skills and abilities of its leadership team. It's a win-win for the community and enhances the partnerships in public safety with the Sheriff's Department.
One of the downsides of obtaining that proven leadership and experience is sometimes all that skill comes at a price - a shorter tenure. While it doesn't happen all that often - it does happen and with more than 31 years of career policing experience Chief Fracolli will be retiring from the Marin County Sheriff's Department, and consequently, from Belvedere.
Chief Fracolli served as one of Belvedere "hands-on" chiefs and was not afraid to get out in the car and work the streets. He has left his leadership mark on the Belvedere Police Department and the community is better for it.
There will be a small reception for Chief Fracolli prior to the February 14 City Council Meeting - come and wish him well and happy fishing!
