Summer Projects Moving Along
Nearing Completion
vault
Projects are moving along in Belvedere, both public and private.  A few of the major utility projects are nearing completion.  The Marin Municipal Water District is nearing completion of their waterline replacement project and PG&E is nearing completion of their gas line upgrade project on Belvedere Island.  Both of these projects have impacted traffic through road closures and encroachments during the last couple of months.  PG&E, AT&T, and Comcast continue to scan the Island and work on the silencing of noisy utility boxes and AT&T continues to complete work connected to an finished underground district by removal of remaining poles and wires.

pathwayFor City projects, on San Rafael Avenue, the San Rafael Pathway Project continues with plantings and installation of the decomposed granite pathway.  Once the major sections are complete, the project will transition to the area closest to Tiburon Boulevard left open for access and the installation of curb, gutter, planting, and fencing on the Lagoon side at 100 San Rafael Avenue.  While this project has not involved road closures, it has caused pedestrian challenges by forcing pedestrian traffic to the opposite sidewalk.

The Mid-San Rafael Avenue Underground Utility District will be completing major trenching this week and will then begin some of the lateral trenches for property connections.  The project is nearly back on schedule and the bulk of the work is nearly done.   Because San Rafael Avenue is the major thoroughfare through the City, traffic impacts have been significant.  We appreciate your patience as the contractor attempts to move quickly through the heavy equipment trenching phase of the project.

terraceThe City Hall Terrace Project encountered some unforeseen conditions under the terrace and is about 3 weeks behind schedule due to increased project scope.  This week they began installation of the plywood on top of the subfloor and will begin waterproofing next week.  The main entrance to City Hall is expected to re-open toward the end of the month as the work moves on to planters, walls, and benches.

Once these projects complete, Sanitary District No. 5 has a planned project along portions of Acacia, Laurel and San Rafael Avenue to conduct the installation of new sewer pipes.  Some of this work may involve in-the-ground pipe lining and other work may involve actual trench work.

wallFinally, in August the Beach Road Retaining Wall project begins and while this is not a major project, it will impact traffic flow in the area during the work.  The project is directly opposite 296 Beach Road.  Access in and through the area will be impacted intermittently.  In September the City will begin its Street Slurry Project for 2011.   Details on the City's Capital Improvement projects can be found on the City's Capital Improvement webpage and updates on the projects are regularly sent via a News Flash.  Visit the Notify Me section of the website to sign-up for newsletters and news flashes.  (Other sections of the website to check out include - Trees, Maps, FAQs, America's Cup, City Calendars, and News Flashes.)

It has been a very, very busy year with many projects overlapping due to early rain delays as a result of a latent wet weather season.  We expect all City projects to complete in the early fall (September/October).

But enough of the challenges for the month - on to the FUN!

ForeverlandAugust also has a coming Concert in the Park on August 14 from 4 pm to 6 pm.  The August Concert features the electrifying music of Foreverland - the 14-Piece Tribute Band to the music of Michael Jackson.  Summer concerts are FREE to the public and sponsored by individual and community tax-deductible donations.  Please come and support these wonderful concerts made possible through community contributions and the hard work of the Concerts Committee Volunteers:  Anne Butler, Nancy Cappelloni, Christina Decker, Tina Dewey, Jack Doyle, Ginny Doyle, Roger Felton, Nena Hart, Maureen Johnson, Cissy Kirrane, Jeffery Stein, and Petey Stein.  Bring a blanket, a picnic, your family and friends, and have a great time!

Art FestivalAt the end of August is the 2011 Tiburon Art Festival & Plein Air Competition.  Visit Ark Row on August 27 and 28 from 11 am to 6 pm and enjoy live music, family entertainment, and featured juried artists!  New this year is the Tiburon Plein Air Competition.  Local artists will be invited to paint in the "open air" on Saturday, August 27 from 10 am to 3 pm.  Jurors will choose 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for cash prizes.  The artwork will be displayed Saturday, from 4 pm to 6pm and Sunday, from 11 am to 6 pm.  This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase paintings of local scenes from local artists at very reasonable rates.  Artist applications and full details on the competition are available on the Tiburon Art Festival website, or call Cathleen Andreucci at (415) 435-4355.

Enjoy the month - and that's just August!  Wait until September with the Main Street Parade, final Summer Concert, Golf Tournament, Blackie's Hay Day and more!

Sincerely,

George Rodericks
City Manager
