Annual Town Meeting
Meeting Set for January 23, 2012
The Annual Town Meeting is set for January 23, 2012 at 7 pm. Mark you calendars! In addition to the Citizen of the Year and Citizen Emeritus Awards, there will be a State of the City presentation by the Mayor and City Manager. Of keen interest by then will be the Land Use Recommendations from the Planning Commission to the City Council on changes to development standards applicable to properties in the FEMA Flood Zone.
Also scheduled prior to the Town Hall Meeting will be an unveiling of the new Electric Vehicle Charging Stations set to be installed in November/December.
W.R. Forde Continues Progress with Sanitary District No. 5 Project
Things are a bit busy in front of City Hall again as W.R. Forde, contractor for Sanitary District No. 5 begins the cross-over onto Acacia as part of the sewer line replacement project. For details on the project and its scope, contact Sanitary District Offices at (415) 435-1501.
City Hall Patio Project Nearing Completion
This project has gone on far longer than any of us anticipated, but hopefully soon, the fabricated rails will be delivered and installed and the patio area will be opened up again. While there may continue to be punch list items to complete (painting, electrical, etc.) and the planting, the installation of the railings is a key safety component to allowing public access again. It will all be over soon - at least that's what they keep telling me.
Mid-San Rafael Underground District
Like most underground district projects, there ends up being a lot of delays and a lot of confusion - particularly when dealing with the utility companies. PG&E has delayed their start of work on the project three times. PG&E has finally agreed to start next week, but on an intermittent basis (as their other commitments allow).
Following this project (and following Sanitary District No. 5's project) the City is creating an ADA-compliant sidewalk plan for the Lagoon side of San Rafael Avenue. This is certainly going to be a sensitive project - without a doubt. The process will include significant time for public input, but complete satisfaction by all will probably be a bit unrealistic. ADA compliance is not an option. We have to deal with the issue along San Rafael Avenue at some point. Several of the elm trees must be removed due to Dutch Elm Disease. Replacement trees in the area will be considered in concert with the ADA Plan for the area.
Sincerely,
George Rodericks

Open Space Workday, Nature Walk & Lunch
Saturday, December 3, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tiburon Peninsula Club Parking Lot
Get a good workout, learn about local wildlife and enjoy a hearty lunch on Saturday, December 3 when the Broom Busters of Old St. Hilary's Open Space host their biggest workday of the year from 9 am to 1 pm.
Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of the Tiburon Peninsula Club (1600 Mar West Street) and will pull broom on the open space behind the club. Marin County Parks Rangers will be on hand to direct the efforts, provide tools, snacks and lunch. Naturalist David Herlocker will lead a walk to show how plants and animals benefit from habitat restoration and point out unique features of the open space.
The Broom Busters have been battling broom, bull thistle and other non-native plants since 1997, and they need reinforcements. Workdays are usually the first Saturday morning each month. The requirements are simple: "Come when you can; leave when you must." No experience is needed.
To volunteer or to receive e-mail announcements of future workdays, call the Volunteer Coordinator at Marin County Parks - (415) 499-3778.
