Holiday Safety Tips
With the holidays here, there are many hazards to keep an eye out for...check out these Holiday Safety Tips brought to you by the Tiburon Fire Protection District.
Wild Flower Seed Event
Whether you have a great pitching arm, love flowers, or want to be a part of a great community beautification project, please join us on Sunday, December 4, 10:00 AM at the statue of Blackie at Blackie's Pasture in Tiburon. We will be gathering to "broadcast" wildflower seed balls that the students at the Reed District schools have made over the past few weeks.
A wildflower seed ball is a combination of compost, red clay and wildflower seed formed into a ball shape (think meatballs). Once dry, all we need to do is toss the balls into the area where we would like to see flowers and Mother Nature will do the rest. In the ball, the wildflower seeds are protected from wind and birds until enough of our winter rains have saturated the sphere to start the germination process. When the seeds germinate, the ball cracks open and we get about one square foot of flowers where the seed ball lands.
The Town of Tiburon, the Tiburon Peninsula Foundation, and the Landmarks Society worked all through the summer and fall grading the land and preparing the area for a wildflower meadow. Come help the Brownies and Scouts and students from the Reed District schools as they add their contribution to this marvelous project, come show your peninsula pride. For more information please call James Campbell at (415) 309-9619

Mid-San Rafael Underground District
Like most underground district projects, there ends up being a lot of delays and a lot of confusion - particularly when dealing with the utility companies. PG&E has delayed their start of work on the project three times. PG&E started work on pulling wires and setting equipment this week, but due to the high winds have been called away to other priority areas. They will return next week.
Sincerely,
George Rodericks

Open Space Workday, Nature Walk & Lunch
Saturday, December 3, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tiburon Peninsula Club Parking Lot
Get a good workout, learn about local wildlife and enjoy a hearty lunch on Saturday, December 3 when the Broom Busters of Old St. Hilary's Open Space host their biggest workday of the year from 9 am to 1 pm.
Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of the Tiburon Peninsula Club (1600 Mar West Street) and will pull broom on the open space behind the club. Marin County Parks Rangers will be on hand to direct the efforts, provide tools, snacks and lunch. Naturalist David Herlocker will lead a walk to show how plants and animals benefit from habitat restoration and point out unique features of the open space.
The Broom Busters have been battling broom, bull thistle and other non-native plants since 1997, and they need reinforcements. Workdays are usually the first Saturday morning each month. The requirements are simple: "Come when you can; leave when you must." No experience is needed.
To volunteer or to receive e-mail announcements of future workdays, call the Volunteer Coordinator at Marin County Parks - (415) 499-3778.
