Block Captains.jpgGet Ready To Meet Your Block Captains!

The first official Block Captain meeting was held on March 12th in the Founders Room.  The volunteer Block Captains were all given information about the program.  They were able to meet each other and ask questions about the Block Captain program.  Laurie then distributed forms for the Block Captains to pass out to their neighbors. This will assist emergency personnel in case a disaster requires evacuation of the City.

In the next few weeks your Block Captain will be coming by to introduce themselves.  They will be dropping off emergency contact information sheets for each of you to fill out and hand back to them.

The sheets are to gather information about the number of children and pets in a household, your emergency contact information, emergency water, gas and power shutoff locations.  There is also a place to add any special needs for members of your household who may have mobility limitations or hearing/vision impairments.  This will help emergency personnel to better prepare additional resources if needed.

Although we had a great turnout at the meeting, we are still looking for block captains to cover San Rafael Av, Golden Gate Ave and Madrona Ave.  If you would like to participate, please contact:

Laurie Gordon-Belvedere Tiburon Emergency Services Coordinator, LGordon@ci.tiburon.ca.us
or James Campbell-Block Captain Coordinator, JamesGCampbellSF@gmail.com

Citizens Oversight.jpgAnnual Report - Citizens' Oversight Committee for the Transportation Authority of Marin

The Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM) was created to administer the half-cent Marin County Transportation Sales Tax, Measure A, approved by Marin voters in November 2004. TAM has also been designated as the Marin County Congestion Management Agency (CMA). The Agency is responsible for transportation programs and projects in Marin County. The TAM Board includes elected officials from each city and town, plus the five members of the Marin County Board of Supervisors.

The Measure A Expenditure Plan mandates the formation of a Citizens' Oversight Committee (COC). The purpose of the COC is to provide an independent review that Measure A expenditures are spent in accordance with the Expenditure Plan. With the passage of Measure B, the $10 vehicles registration fee in November 2010, the TAM Board asked the COC to also take on the oversight role for these revenues and expenditures. COC reports its findings annually to the public. The seventh of these reports, the Fiscal Year 2010-11 Annual Report, is presented for the public to review and learn how their sales tax dollars are being spent as well as to get an overview of the newly implemented Measure B projects and programs. Electronic copies of the annual reports are available on the TAM website at www.tam.ca.gov.

The COC thanks all Marin residents for their support of transportation programs and projects in Marin County. The COC is also searching for dedicated Marin residents to serve on the Committee. Please contact TAM staff at (415) 226-0815 if you would like to be part of this exciting transportation group.

marin-village.jpgMarin Village - Opportunity for Volunteers

Our Tiburon Peninsula Village (TPV), part of the Marin Village network which consists of neighbors helping neighbors to age gracefully, keep active and keep socially engaged, is growing and needs volunteers to share the tasks (and rewards!) of serving on the TPV steering committee and/or being available to provide rides, do errands, and share conversation with members.  To learn more, contact a TPV co-chair:

Thrift Shop.jpgLandmarks Society Needs Volunteers for the Tiburon Thrift Shop

Our The Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks Society needs volunteers to help staff the Tiburon Thrift shop on Fridays and every 5th Saturday.

The Tiburon Thrift Shop, located on Ark Row, is a great place for the community to recycle and purchase quality items at affordable prices.  It is easy and fun and you will be doing a great service to our local community!  Help with sorting donations, organizing the retail space, and selling to locals and visitors.

The Tiburon Thrift Shop was created as a vehicle to raise funds to support local non-profits.  All of the profits are distributed back to the local community benefitting:  The Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks Society, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Westminster Presbyterian Church, St. Hilary Catholic Church and the Community Congregational Church.

If you're interested in volunteering, please contact Sue Ohrenschall at suepohren@aol.com or the Landmarks office at lmsoffice@sbcglobal.net.

Please feel free to pass this volunteer opportunity on to your friends!
