On Monday, July 30 please join the City in welcoming Michael Fuson as the City's Interim City Manager.  Mr. Fuson retired from the City of Sonoma where he served as city manager until 2007. Prior to Sonoma, Mr. Fuson has worked as city manager for the City of Pismo Beach, the City of Pinole, and the City of Sausalito, bringing with him more than 20 years of city management experience to Belvedere.

Mr. Fuson will serve as the City's Interim City Manager as the City conducts a formal recruitment to find a permanent City Manager to replace former Manager George Rodericks who left in June.  A City Manager Search Committee has been formed and is fast at work interviewing a search firm to begin the formal search.  It is anticipated that Mr. Fuson will be with the City until the permanent Manager is hired.

Counci_Chambers.JPGUpcoming Citizens' Flood Committee Meeting

The next meeting of the Citizens' Flood Zone Committee is set for Wednesday, August 8 at 6:30 pm.

On the Agenda will be an update on the FEMA Cooperative Technical Partner Project and a discussion of land use and FEMA issues surrounding properties on West Shore Road.  West Shore Road properties face a unique challenge under FEMA regulations that require new development to be moved landward to eliminate impact due to "high-velocity wave action" in the area.  The Committee will discuss ways to educate and assist property owners on West Shore Road in handling this challenging development issue.

BeachRoadSidewalk.jpgRepairs to Beach Road Sidewalk Continue

Following notification of a sidewalk problem in front of #16-22 Beach Road the City Engineer advised staff to hire a contractor to investigate and make repairs. Upon removal of the concrete sidewalk slabs it was determined that there was extensive erosion under the sidewalk and emergency repairs were needed.

During the inspection phase of the repair work at 16 Beach Road, additional erosion was observed during sidewalk demolition, requiring city staff to make decisions to increase the scope of the work to include the removal of additional sidewalk panels and determine the extend of the erosion. The contractor performing the repairs took full advantage of the low tides during daylight hours last Saturday and poured nearly 8 yards of concrete to fill voids under the seawall footing caused by years of tidal action. The work was supervised by City staff and a professional engineering firm from Novato, Noble Consultants.

Gas line under sidewalk_225x225_thumb.jpgAdditionally during the investigative work, a PG&E gas service was found to be under tension due to the erosion and a water line was found to be leaking at the meter. Both PG&E and MMWD were contacted for repairs, the gas service re-routed and the leaking water line is scheduled to be repaired on Monday July 30th.

Erosion repairs under the sidewalk and seawall have been completed and the replacement sidewalk panels will be replaced on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

City staff thanks the residents and users of Beach Road for their patience during this repair work.
