Come Grow with Marin Master Gardeners Do you enjoy gardening and working with people? Volunteer and be trained by the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) to offer information and assistance to home gardeners in Marin County: Answer residents garden questions on the telephone hotline Educate residents at Farmers Markets and fairs Assist educators in establishing school gardens Be an environmental steward - work on community service projects and gardens within the county APPLY TO BECOME A MASTER GARDENER! The Marin Master Gardeners are a group of local volunteers trained to serve as consultants to home gardeners. They teach classes and provide information on plant health and gardening practices including vegetable gardening, trees, soil, lawns, ornamental horticulture, integrated pest management, diseases, water-wise gardening and related topics. Training sessions are held on Thursdays beginning in January and continuing through early May 2013. Learn more at an information session: NOVATO – THURSDAY, AUGUST 23 Where: UCCE Office 1682 Novato Boulevard, Suite 150B Time: 2 p.m. ROSS – THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 Where: Marin Art and Garden Center Livermore Room - 30 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Time: 6 p.m. Applications available online at Marin Master Gardeners or call the Master Gardeners Help Desk at 415-473-4204 Applications due September 14, 2012 Back to Top Construction to begin in Tiburon on the Lyford Drive Parking Lot Project The Town of Tiburon recently advised City Staff that construction to turn the gravel parking area along Tiburon Blvd (across from Lyford Dr) into a new Multi-Modal Parking lot will begin in the coming weeks. The project will not be without impacts to the community. This project has been in the planning stages for more than two years and has had to clear a number of hurdles to be receive approval. The first phase of the project will be the clearing of the vegetation along the hillside between the multi use pathway between Lagoon Rd and Tiburon Blvd, then the temporary relocation of existing electric poles and overhead wires while the contractor installs new underground structures for installing the wiring underground. Additionally a MMWD waterline will be abandoned and relocated in the area. Once utility undergrounding work has been completed the contractor will shift to grading the site to prepare for a new parking lot that will include the installation of a bus stop, energy efficient lighting and water conserving landscaping. The project will provide nearly 50 vehicle parking spaces. The project is expected to take 80 working days to construct and should be completed in early 2013. City staff have provided information to the contractor regarding potential impacts to parking by parents for drop off and pick up at Reed School. When the project is completed it will improve an area of Tiburon Blvd that many often comment is a blight to the community. Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the San Geronimo Golf Course Save the Date! Tuesday, September 11 is this year's date for the Belvedere-Tiburon Open. We would like to invite you to join us for the 17th Annual event. This year's event will take place at the beautiful San Geronimo Golf Course in San Geronimo. Thanks to the City of Belvedere and the Town of Tiburon, Belvedere Tiburon Community Recreation is designated as this year's beneficiary with the tournament helping to ensure continued high quality recreation services. This year's player fee is $160 and includes green fee for 18 holes, lunch before the shotgun start, a sit-down dinner and drinks post play and lots of prizes! We would like to extend an invitation to join us either as part of a foursome that you form on your own or if you would like to sign up as a single player - we will add you to an open slot. If you would like to sign up now, click the player registration link below. 2012 Player Registration Form Back to Top Tiburon Art Festival August 25-26 - 11 am to 6 pm The sixth annual Tiburon Art Festival returns to Historic Ark Row on Saturday and Sunday, August 25 and 26, with juried artists, live music, family entertainment, and other activities. PLEIN AIRE COMPETITION Local artists have been selected to paint "in the open air" at Fountain Plaza on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.  Jurors will choose 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for cash prizes. The artwork will be displayed from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday. The artwork will be available for purchase in a silent auction on Ark Row. The Tiburon Peninsula has many talented artists, so be sure to take advantage of this show. NEW THIS YEAR - ITALIAN STREET PAINTING Italian Street Painting (like they used to do in San Rafael) is coming to the Tiburon Peninsula! In addition to the Art Festival on Ark Row and the Plein Aire contest at Fountain Plaza, artists and spectators can enjoy street painting on Beach Road. Starting Saturday morning, August 25, artists will use pastel chalk to draw in their assigned square on Beach Road in Belvedere. Children as well as adult artists are welcome to reserve a square. Call the Belvedere-Tiburon Joint Recreation office at 435-4355 to reserve your square. Spectators should plan to visit the street a few times to watch the progress, and it's free! Back to Top Tiburon Peninsula Draft Transit Needs Assessment Now Online   In partnership with the Town of Tiburon and the City of Belvedere, Marin Transit spent several months conducting a transit needs assessment to evaluate existing services on the Tiburon Peninsula, identify new and emerging mobility needs that fall outside of current transit service options, and craft practical strategies for meeting these needs. The study focused on Tiburon, Belvedere, and Strawberry  and engaged a wide variety of community members and existing transit riders to obtain valuable input on their specific transit needs.
