BEACH ROAD RETAINING WALL PROJECT

NOTICE OF PLANNED WORK

Dear Resident,

The purpose of this notice is to inform you and your neighbors of an upcoming Capital Improvement Project in the City.

In 2018, the uphill slope near the 150 block of Beach Road failed due to a high-intensity rain event, causing a hill slide within the City right of way. The city investigated the failure and hired a consultant to design and engineer a permanent repair. The project was publicly bid and awarded in May, to Maloney Construction, a General Contractor that specializes in retaining walls, soil nailing, and slide repair.

The scope of work includes construction of a new concrete retaining wall and soil nail reinforcement of an existing retaining wall adjacent to the project site, installation of surface & subsurface drainage with outlet components, and two phases of shotcrete placement.

Maloney Construction will be staging, operating heavy equipment, and storing materials on site between parking spaces near the area of 150 to 191 Beach Road; no vehicle parking will be allowed at this location until all work is complete.

During the hours of construction (M-F between 8am-5pm) Beach Road will be open to one-way traffic headed south (uphill) from the Yacht Club to Bayview Avenue. Signs and traffic cones will be posted at both locations. Traffic restrictions will only apply during work hours. Additionally, four (4) separate full-day road closures in both directions will be necessary. Maloney construction will post signs 72 hours prior to closing the road. During the road closure events, only resident traffic will be allowed in and out of the area via San Rafael Ave. and Bayview Ave. where they intersect with Beach Road. Signs will be posted to direct traffic to detour at these points.

Maloney Construction anticipates the length of time to complete this project to be approximately thirty (30) days, from a start date of 7/20/2020, to an estimated finish date of 8/20/2020.  Normal working hours will be from 8:00 am -4:30 pm Monday through Friday, excluding Holidays. A complete work schedule will be made available at City Hall, copies will be provided upon request.

Please contact us with any questions, concerns, or requests for additional information about the project.
