For the past 3 years, Belvedere has listened to the concerns our residents have about coyotes and has responded in a variety of ways to address them. With the help of a wildlife consultant, the City Council adopted a Coyote Response Plan, learned what attracts coyotes to our community, and collected data on their number and locations.
On the city website and in the Belvedere Breeze, we shared pertinent information about coyote behavior, and effective hazing strategies.
We also created a hotline and online form for community members to report coyote sightings and encounters. Each report was acknowledged, and many were followed by a phone call or site visit. We also provided one-on-one consultations with residents about methods to deter coyotes from entering their property.
We are now entering a new phase in which Marin Humane will be the primary point of contact for issues related to coyotes in Belvedere. Residents may report coyote interactions by calling (415) 883-4621 or submitting an online report directly to Marin Humane. In the event of an emergency regarding a coyote, residents should dial 9-1-1.
The Coyote Awareness section of the Belvedere website will be maintained as a resource for residents.
