Disaster Preparedness Update - New Belvedere Block Captains Website

Belvedere Block Captains sign
Last week's 4.5 magnitude earthquake centered in Berkeley and the recent Northern and Southern Californian wildfires remind us that natural disasters are as unpredictable as they are devastating. We know that emergency preparedness saves lives and, as a City, we are constantly updating our emergency planning in line with best practices. With that in mind, we are excited to announce the launch of our Belvedere Block Captain Website and Household Registration Portal.

The idea of Belvedere Block Captains is straightforward. In the event of a regional catastrophic disaster, our emergency responders will be stretched, and Belvedere could be inaccessible. Our trained local volunteer block captains will be tasked with quickly assessing who is most in need and interfacing with our Emergency Operations Center to get help.

To be most effective, it is imperative that our block captains are familiar with their neighborhoods, especially vulnerable residents who may require additional assistance. As such, we are asking all Belvedere households, including block captain households, to register their information on our Block Captain Website.

The process takes less than five minutes. You may also use the website to find your street’s block captains and volunteer to be a block captain.

Your privacy is of the upmost importance to us. Your data will be maintained on an encrypted server at City Hall and only your basic household information – excluding contact details – will be shared in hardcopy form with your street’s block captains.

To register your information, please visit and click on the “Register Now” link. If you need assistance inputting your information, please visit City Hall or call 415-435-3838 and one of our staff will assist you.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation. We are aiming for 100% participation by Belvedere households during our two-week registration window which runs from January 8 to 21. Let’s set an example for other communities about effective disaster preparedness!
