[ARCHIVED] Tiburon Boulevard Construction -- Expect Delays!

road work ahead sign

Caltrans is scheduled to move back on site to complete the safety improvements on Tiburon Boulevard at Stewart Drive (see description below) beginning today, Monday, March 12. Their contractor began the work on February 22nd, but moved off due to scheduling conflicts. According to Caltrans, it will be limiting construction activity to 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. until further notice. Travel lanes are expected to be kept open in both directions at all times, but the area is quite constrained so any work will result in some slowdowns and delays. The Caltrans contact for the project is Nicholas Chreng at (510) 224-6311.

What is this work?

The intersection of Tiburon Boulevard and Stewart Drive can be a difficult crossing point because sight lines are very short for drivers, particularly as they come around the bend on the Boulevard headed east. Because the crossing at this location is an important connection between the adjacent neighborhood and Blackie's Pasture and the Peninsula Path, efforts have been made over the years to improve its safety. The current project entails the installation of lights in the pavement and overhead that will flash when a pedestrian pushes a button to cross. Caltrans, which owns the Boulevard, is conducting the work.
